Peter Taylor has welcomed the prospect of taking City to a new training base.

The club are keen to uproot from Apperley Bridge and are currently in negotiations to rent different headquarters.

Taylor, who has checked out the potential venue, sees it as a positive step forward.

And it will end the days of muddy journeys back to Valley Parade.

He said: “At the moment we’re getting changed at the ground, which isn’t ideal.

“I want the players to work hard in training. But then they get muddy and have to go back in their cars before getting showered. Little things like that aren’t right.

“Where we are is okay and the groundsman at Apperley Bridge does a brilliant job but, as I said to the board, for me to want to be here next year you’ve got to be able to prepare better. That’s why I’ve been pushing for better training facilities.”

Taking training away from Rawdon Meadows would allow Taylor to do everything under one roof.

He added: “Finances are out of my control but ideally we want to try and get near-on our own training ground. It would be available to us whenever.

“It’s the chance to do everything there, get changed, showered and eat at the same place.

“I do respect the club’s finances. But on the other side, I always want the best training facilities and best match pitch available.”

Meanwhile, Matt Clarke is expected to feature in the squad at Bournemouth on Saturday. The central defender has not made the bench for the last two games.

Taylor said his omission against Dagenham was triggered by Robbie Threlfall’s illness leading up to the game. Louis Horne was added to the bench as cover at left back.

The City boss added: “I decided to include Louis because Robbie hadn’t been well and, to be fair, he was tired during the game.

“Everybody thought the last goal was Adam Bolder’s fault but it was probably down to Robbie as well. He was so tired, his calves were killing him.

“On another day I’m sure he would have cleared that ball away.”
