The incessant rain caused postponements for both of the local semi-professional sides hoping to be in action tonight.

Thackley should have headed to Selby Town in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division but they got a call from the North Yorkshire outfit early in the afternoon.

Thackley spokesman Chris Franks said: "It was called off due to a waterlogged pitch - no surprise there then."

There was a similar story at the Smith Butler Stadium, where Eccleshill United should have hosted Staveley MW in the lower division.

Heavy rain since the weekend in many areas put paid to all of the league’s games scheduled for tonight.

The Northern Counties East league do not have fixtures scheduled for Good Friday but all the clubs will be hoping the weather improves before Saturday as their end of season run-ins are already very congested.
