Albion Sports’ run of nine unbeaten West Riding County Amateur League games came to a crashing halt as Bay Athletic blitzed the PREMIER DIVISION leaders 5-1.

Albion had beaten Bay 1-0 in midweek to reach the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup final but the Huddersfield-based side gained revenge in emphatic style as Kitson Gayle bagged a hat-trick.

The defending champions also had Nick Jagger and Brighton Mugadza on target, with Jordan Missin netting the hosts’ only consolation.

Sports’ defeat meant Bradford neighbours Wibsey had a chance to take over at the top of the table but they were unable to take advantage as Meltham Athletic held them to a 1-1 draw.

Adam Mathews fired the Huddersfield hosts in front and it needed a Mick Garnett goal to earn a point for Wibsey, who remain second on goal difference.

Second-bottom Kirkburton may be facing relegation but they made Campion work hard for a narrow 1-0 home victory.

Kirkburton goalkeeper Dave Armitage kept his side in with a chance with a string of fine saves before he was finally beaten by Ben O’Melia’s tenth of the season.

Tyersal had to come from behind to claim a point with a 1-1 draw at home to Golcar United, Glynne Beale’s goal cancelling out the visitors’ opener from Gary Holmes. Bottom side Halifax Irish appear doomed to relegation after losing 5-0 at home to Storthes Hall and Brighouse Town, who lost 2-0 at Hall Green United, are also facing a struggle to stay up.

Steeton and Hunsworth remain on course for promotion from DIVISION ONE after victories against Littletown and Hemsworth Miners Welfare respectively.

Graham Holmes (2) and Lee Reilly scored in Steeton’s 3-0 success at Littletown to keep them top on goal difference.

But unbeaten Hunsworth still have four games in hand and enhanced their title push with a 5-3 home win against rock-bottom Hemsworth, with Lee Padgett’s hat-trick backed up by Dale Wright and Lee Brook.

Ventus/Yeadon Celtic can overtake Steeton if they win their three games in hand and maintained their pursuit with a 3-1 home win over Wakefield City, which featured goals from Terry Hargreaves (2) and Anthony Hannan.

Salts also kept up their bid for a top-two place with a 4-2 home win over Tyersal Reserves. Sam Gooding (2), Richard Magson and Lee Grice outscored Alan Morley senior and Jamie McEwen.

Campion Reserves extended their unbeaten run to nine games in DIVISION TWO with a 3-0 victory at previously unbeaten leaders Bay Athletic Reserves thanks to goals by Andrew Hawker, Arron Metcalfe and Chris Helliwell.

But second-placed Westbrook YMCA missed a chance to move level on points with Bay at the top after losing 1-0 at Storthes Hall Reserves.

The second PREMIER DIVISION CUP semi-final takes place at Brighouse Town’s ground on Wednesday night, with Bradford rivals Campion and Albion Sports meeting to decide who faces Storthes Hall in this season’s final.
