City have moved a step closer to securing Peter Taylor’s services after revealing plans to move training ground.

The Bantams are preparing to quit Apperley Bridge for an improved site.

Taylor and joint-chairman Mark Lawn have both checked out a potential new base, which had been identified through a contact of former City winger Mark Ellis.

Lawn will not confirm its location but is confident a deal can be done and said: “We’re hopeful of negotiating something.

“This place has got four or five quality pitches that are not being used during the daytime and only get played on once or twice a week.

“There’s also a brand new third-generation pitch if the weather is bad and we can put some free weights in there so the players have got a gym.

“Peter wants to go somewhere that the lads can turn up, get changed and showered there. He’s said the changing facilities are not good enough at Rawdon Meadows and I think he’s probably right.

“We had a look at the place on Thursday and I think Peter liked what he saw.

“Apperley Bridge has had its day so we’re trying to negotiate down to a reasonable price and hopefully get him where he wants to be.”

Taylor has made it clear that a new contract with City will depend on having the proper tools to do the job. Better training headquarters are a key factor.

Lawn said: “Hopefully we’ve sorted his wages and personal terms and we’re nearly there with the budget for players.

“But it’s also down to the fans. We’re launching season tickets next week and if we can sell 5,000, I can give him the budget that he wants.

“Julian (Rhodes), his father and myself are willing to put our hands in our pockets a little bit but we’ll also need the support of the fans.”

Meanwhile, Omar Daley faces another spell on the sidelines after pulling his hamstring in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Dagenham.

Taylor admitted: “He’s looking at a couple of weeks out or possibly a touch more. Michael Flynn also hurt his ribs but we’re hopeful he could be back for next Saturday.”
