Steve Kittrick is relieved Guiseley do not have to play Durham City again this season.

The Lions’ points total includes six they took off the UniBond Premier Division’s whipping boys.

The beleaguered north-eastern side went 28 games without picking up a single point. They broke their duck at FC United and then made it back-to-back wins in their next fixture.

“I think I speak for a lot of managers in this division when I say I’m glad we have played both our games against Durham and they are out of the way,” said Kittrick.

“I predicted they would win games and kept saying that to anyone and everyone.

“Every club in the division respects them for the way they have conducted themselves this season and was wary of the banana skin when playing them.

“I admire what they have done, getting players in from the local college to play for nothing after their sponsors pulled out. They were determined to see the season out and they are a credit to the game.

“I take my hat off to them and speaking to the other managers and chairmen in our league I know I’m not the only one.

“And what a place to do it, at Gigg Lane in front of all those United fans. That could have been any of us on the end of that defeat.”
