Talented young Arsenal left winger or striker Sanchez Watt goes straight into Leeds’ squad for tomorrow’s top-of-the-table contest at Norwich after joining on loan until the end of the season.

London-born Watt, 19, scored for the Gunners on his debut in a Carling Cup win against West Brom earlier in the season. He also turned out in Carling Cup games against Liverpool and Manchester City and has been a regular in Arsenal’s reserves.

He played four games while on loan at Southend last month and Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: “Arsenal think he has a great future. He is learning his trade and gives us another option as we need extra bodies for the season’s important run-in.”

Sanchez’s arrival follows the signing on loan of central defender Neill Collins from Preston on Tuesday and defender Shane Lowry’s return on loan from Aston Villa.

Grayson wants his team to thrive on being underdogs at the League One leaders.

Leeds trail Paul Lambert’s Canaries by eight points and aim to avoid making it three successive defeats for the first time in 15 months.

Grayson said: “We will be underdogs for the first time in a league game this season, which may work to our advantage. I still feel we can catch Norwich. If we beat them at Carrow Road the gap will be down to five points.”

Goalkeeper Shane Higgs could be back for the first time since injuring his thigh against the Canaries in October.

Higgs was carried off after only 17 minutes of the 2-1 win at Elland Road. He returned to the squad for Monday night’s home defeat against Millwall but had to be content with a seat on the bench.

Collins is poised for his debut in place of unfortunate Australian Patrick Kisnorbo, whose ruptured Achilles injury keeps him out of the remaining games and this summer’s World Cup.

Grayson said: “Paddy is absolutely devastated. Hopefully the players will use him as an inspiration to get promoted.

“They have to perform for themselves, for the fans, for the club and for Paddy. We all have to work even harder to make things happen.

“I would like to think playing Norwich, who are one of the better footballing sides in the division, will bring out the best in us and get us back on track.”

Jermaine Beckford, who missed the Millwall game with a tight hamstring, remains doubtful and Grayson will assess his top scorer’s fitness on the morning of the match.

Leeds winger Andy Robinson has rejoined his first club Tranmere on loan until the end of the season.
