Eccleshill United could give themselves and neighbours Brighouse Town a massive helping hand on Saturday as they make the journey to second-placed Tadcaster Albion in Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One.

The Eagles missed the chance to haul themselves out of the bottom two when they lost at home to Taddy in midweek.

That was a narrow 2-0 defeat, and the promotion chasers had the benefit of a penalty to help attain their win.

A reversal of the result would not just avenge the disappointment of the Eagles but would also see Taddy lose ground on Brighouse.

To put things in perspective, though, Tadcaster’s win on Tuesday has edged them in front of third-placed Leeds Carnegie (both clubs have three games in hand on Brighouse) and made them title favourites.

Hot-shot Jamil Joseph scored four as Eccleshill United defeated Ossett Town 5-1 in the Under-19 Alliance League, Ben Whiteoak netting the other.

The Eagles’ reserves also beat Ossett Town at Plumpton Park in the Lancashire League, Joe Penn hitting the game’s only goal.
