Brighouse Town have maintained the pressure on their rivals for the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One title so well that they go into this weekend knowing they cannot be displaced as leaders.

Mark Brier’s boys are four points clear and hosting seventh-placed Pontefract Collieries at the Dual Seal Stadium. The one thing against them is the number of games they have remaining.

Brier said: “We talked about five cup finals before last Saturday’s difficult trip to Barton Town, and we won that so now we are down to four cup finals.

"All of our rivals keep matching our results so we have to make sure we keep going and banking the points.

“Because of the excellent work carried out by our groundstaff over what has been a very difficult winter for clubs at every level, we have no backlog of fixtures.

"That could work in our favour in the final analysis, because while there are more points available to our rivals, they have some very big games crammed into a short space of time.”
