Lions boss Steve Kittrick was delighted to land striker Simon Johnson this week as he looks for his squad to put in a final flourish and clinch promotion.

Guiseley’s recent run has made it look like a three-horse race for the title and the one automatic route into the Blue Square North.

However, they are just one of seven clubs still in with a shout of going up via one of the four play-off places and the former Bantams trialist could prove the ideal tonic for the run-in.

“We got Simon from Solihull Moors and added Matty Young from Farsley the week before,” said Kittrick. “Getting them both has brought more experience to the squad and strengthened us.

“The team that holds its nerve best and maintains the momentum will be the one that goes up and we have some tough characters.

“Simon was at Leeds and Hereford United early in his career and he scored goals at Halesowen before ending up at Solihull. He played six games for them and scored four goals.

“I heard he was available and I went straight in for him. He has relocated to this area and was looking for a club. He looked at various options but decided he would join us.

“The competition is healthy at the moment. I had looked at other players but I believe we have the right mix and balance now.

“We are playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday from here on in so we need every player we have on board.”
