Peter Taylor has been bitten by the Bradford City bug.

The City boss is relishing his time at the Valley Parade helm – and has reassured fans that he is 100 per cent committed to the club.

Taylor was unhappy with reports earlier this week linking him with a possible return to Hull and insists he is not looking elsewhere.

He said: “I was a little bit disappointed with the stories about me wanting the Hull job.

“You have to appreciate I was there for four years and have got a lot of affection for a wonderful club. But I can assure supporters here and the two chairmen that I’ve got the bug.

“I’ve got a determination that I wouldn’t mind getting this club where it should be.”

Having joined on a short-term deal until the end of the season, City fans are worried about Taylor’s future beyond that. He can understand their concerns.

He added: “It has been a bit awkward when you’re letting players go because by rights nobody knows if I’m going to be here next year. So maybe those decisions are a little bit strange.

“I do appreciate that side of it but I do want to assure people that I’m not looking for another job.

“I’ve got a job and I’ve promised the club I will be here to the end of the season.

“And I’m determined to impress them enough to get offered the job permanently.”

Chris Brandon yesterday became the latest victim of Taylor’s dressing-room purge. His contract was paid up early like Peter Thorne and the Boulding brothers.

Taylor admitted: “It’s not easy telling people they’re not going to play. But as much as it’s difficult at the time, you feel much better for being honest.

“In the end you’re doing that player a favour because if you didn’t say anything, and he stayed here until May without kicking a ball, you’re messing him up even more.

“You’ve got to be honest with people and give them enough respect. I always feel that if I walk past them in the High Street in ten years’ time, I want them to be able to have a cup of coffee with me or shake my hand.”

Skipper Simon Ramsden is a major doubt for tomorrow’s trip to Hereford with a calf injury. Taylor may also consider resting Omar Daley with Tuesday’s home game against Notts County in mind.

On-loan striker Ryan Kendall could make his senior debut.

Taylor said: “Ryan can run all day and doesn’t give defenders a moment’s break. Goalscoring is an area where he might need to improve but I think he’ll do that with games. To me he fits the bill.

“But I’m delighted with the players. We’ve won four matches and I never thought that would be the case after the first game. But they’ve responded really well.”
