Bradford Park Avenue go into the weekend knowing they cannot be knocked off the summit of the UniBond League Premier Division.

They have a four-point cushion as they host mid-table Whitby Town at Horsfall Stadium. However, they would expect to maintain the points gap on their rivals as the countdown begins.

Saturday's is Avenue’s tenth-last league game of the campaign, and it is a big weekend for the promotion chasers, with third and fourth going head to head and the other three contenders all having home games.

“It is a big game but nothing will be decided by tea-time on Saturday, there will still be a lot of football left,” said Bradford boss John Deacey.

“One of the old boys will be coming home, with Andy Campbell being at Whitby now, so I’m sure he will get a good welcome. I just hope he doesn’t come back to haunt us like so many ex-players seem to do to their former clubs.”

Deacey confirmed that Amjad Iqbal and Aiden Savory, who were both injured in last week’s 1-0 home win over Worksop Town, will be in contention, and that new signing Ryan Serrant will be included in the squad.

“The squad will be exactly the same as last Saturday with Ryan added, and I would settle for the same result - even, like against Worksop, if the performance isn’t as good as we have been used to recently,” said the Avenue manager.

“Ryan only missed out last week because we didn’t get his registration back from the FA in time. We are still checking Amjad (groin) and will give him until Saturday morning to prove his fitness but Aiden (hamstring) should be okay.

“There will be no James Knowles though - not this week at least. He is still wearing that eye patch following his concussion injury, so Saturday is too soon for him to comeback.

“With the two new signings coming in, we have released Chris Ovington but he is the only one to go so far.

"When good players like Ryan and Dominic Krief become available, you have to try to bring them in and, having done that, we still have make sure we don’t exceed our playing budget. The books have to balance at any club.”
