The silent assassins that are Guiseley have sneaked up on the rails in the race for the UniBond League Premier Division title but if they are to stay the course they will have to maintain their clinical attitude through the weekend.

The Lions have roared up to third spot and they face a visit from fourth-placed Retford United on Saturday.

The visitors to Nethermoor will have their own agenda, however, because they need to re-establish themselves as serious contenders.

Retford have played two more games but are four points behind Guiseley, who could step over the 60- point threshold with a win. The home side, meanwhile, are on a run of five straight league victories.

“This is a massive game but it’s just the start of a massive two or three-week spell for us,” said manager Steve Kittrick.

“Retford on Saturday, with Stocksbridge, FC United and Avenue - home and away - all to come soon after that. We just have to keep going and see where we are after it all pans out.

“If we beat Retford, we win nothing and, by the same token, if we lose to them we won’t be out of anything.

"All that matters is where we are when the season ends, and we have given ourselves a chance to be in that one automatic promotion place, but so have four or five other clubs.”

Having signed Matty Young from the disbanded Farsley Celtic before last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Hucknall Town, Kittrick has snapped up former Leeds United youth striker Simon Johnson this week and he is in Saturday's squad.
