It was sad to see Thorney go this week because we’ve been really good mates for a long time.

We first met at Cardiff and have become close friends ever since. He has been a great pro and was a big influence on the younger lads.

But he’s struggled with injuries and to keep battling back only to suffer another problem has driven him mad.

When fit, he was always a proven goal-scorer and the fact the club were willing to let him go shows the impact James Hanson has had.

After a quiet few weeks when he was a bit tired, James has upped his game lately and looked really dangerous. He’s set to finish his first season with a decent amount of goals.

Thorney would never let it bother him if he missed a chance. He’d still be in there for the next one and he’s spent a lot of time getting that mentality into James.

We all wish Thorney well and Micky and Rory too. They were both popular lads in the dressing room but it never really happened for them and it’s probably the right time for them to go in a different direction.

It was good to see Omar looking sharp again and scoring that great goal against Aldershot. It was typical Omar – we knew it was either going to fly into the corner of the net or take somebody out in row Z of the Kop!

He’s great to have around because he’s always smiling and has that laid-back Jamaican mentality. Relax is his favourite word.

Rammers and I visited St Mary’s and St Peter’s Catholic Primary School on Tuesday as part of their healthy eating week. We thought we were just talking to a class but ended up giving a full assembly!

Doing that off the cuff in front of all those kids was a scary experience.

They asked me how many Australian press-ups I could do. You know, upside down!

And Rammers got told he looked like Peter Andre and that bloke Jake Sully off Avatar… We both agreed that it was much easier playing in front of 12,000 fans than talking to 300 schoolkids.
