Hucknall Town 0 Guiseley 1

Guiseley maintained the pressure on their automatic promotion rivals by moving joint second in the UniBond Premier Division with the narrowest of victories.

The Lions moved onto the same number of points as Boston United, who were in League Cup action.

They are currently behind them on goal difference but have two games in hand, and one on leaders Park Avenue, who are four clear at the top.

Guiseley picked up the points thanks to a Lee Askham goal in the first half but that will slip under the radar. The result of the day in the UniBond Premier was basement outfit Durham City earning their first points of the campaign, and how.

After losing their first 28 games on the trot, Durham beat FC United of Manch-ester 2-1 in front of more than 2,000 fans at Gigg Lane.

Guiseley spokesman Stuart Allen said: “That puts results like ours at Hucknall and Avenue’s against Worksop into perspective.

“It was hard work but job done. We had plenty of shots but didn’t have that bit of luck that would have extended our lead.”

The Lions were denied by the woodwork very early on when Dave Merris’ corner was headed against the crossbar by Stuart Rudd.

The visitors created other openings and Askham wasted a good one when he shot over the target in the 15th minute.

Askham came back to net the match-winner in the 38th minute. From a ball into the area he got a good shot on the turn on target, the ball taking a wicked deflection off a defender which spooned it over the home keeper.

The visitors were even more productive in the second half, with shots and headers going wide or over the target.

They did come within an ace of doubling their advantage when Merris’ 67th-minute free-kick struck the crossbar.
