Omar Daley banished a year’s injury hell with a wonder strike after being told: It’s time you scored more.

The Jamaican’s first goal since recovering from a snapped cruciate sealed City’s 2-1 victory over Aldershot, the first time they have clinched successive home wins all season.

And Daley revealed how Peter Taylor wants him to become a regular on the scoresheet.

He said: “The gaffer reckons a player of my standard should be averaging a goal every three games.

“He wants me to get in the box and be in and around the ball and then things will just fall for me. I don’t mind having a target because I need to push on and hopefully my luck will turn.”

Daley first returned two months ago but admitted it has been a struggle to get back to form after such a lengthy absence.

“I thought I could come back and just run past defenders straight away but it’s not that easy.

“The reality has hit me just how hard it is when you’ve had this big injury and it takes time.

“But I just hope these niggles and injuries stop coming now and I can get going again.”

Daley played 65 minutes before coming off as a precaution after getting kneed in his right thigh.

Taylor said: “It’s a tricky one with someone who’s been out so long because you never know whether to start him or not. But I thought he did very well.

“I’m really pleased for Omar because he’s always got a smile on his face. He’s a very good player and it’s taken a lot of hard work to get him back.”

But skipper Simon Ramsden suffered a calf injury that will rule him out of next week’s trip to Hereford.

Taylor praised City’s character for bouncing back from going an early goal down.

He added: “It was a poor start and the crowd started getting at the players a touch but in some ways that might have helped.

“We scored a really good goal to get back and then an even better one to go in front.

“The team are working hard and I can only give them credit. They haven’t had such a good season and we’ve got to get some results to win a bit of pride back.”
