When Town took top spot in the Northern Counties East League Division One last month, manager Mark Brier suggested it could be a brief visit to the summit.

He was keen to ensure no one got ahead of themselves but, with his side still heading the table, he is thrilled his players are proving him wrong.

“Our lads have been tremendous time after time and have turned in real team performances,” said Brier.

“We beat Emley at home in what was a big, big game, no question about it. Then the lads went away and earned two superb back-to-back victories. They were really impressive wins as well with goals and solid defensive displays.”

Town beat promotion rivals Emley 3-0, won 4-0 at Bottesford Town and triumphed 6-2 at Worsborough.

Brier believes the spirit within the camp could prove vital in the run-in.

He said: “We have brought new players in and strengthened the squad but there is still a great atmosphere in the dressing room because everyone is still involved and working together.

“Two of the best lads have come to us from Cumbria. Andy Lockhart and Gary Trewhitt rang out of the blue and asked to come along, which says a lot about the reputation we are building.”

“They have played for clubs at this level and above. Gary works for Nestle and travels all over the country.

“He pitched up locally and could have contacted dozens of clubs but decided on us.”
