Guiseley 1 Kendal 0
Guiseley beat UniBond Premier Division promotion rivals Kendal Town 1-0 at Nethermoor tonight.
The Lions went into the game just three points above their Cumbrian visitors but they doubled that gap with a narrow win.
It turned into a double boost for the club on the night as they moved up into fourth place, leapfrogging North Ferriby, who could only draw at Stocksbridge Park Steels.
The few chances the Lions created in the goalless first period were spread around but Jamie Walshaw, Liam Needham, Chris Holland and Dave Merris were all off target.
When the goal eventually came, it was off the boot of a visiting defender.
Just nine minutes into the second half a cross from the flank was lashed past his own keeper, Dave Newnes, by Town’s Glenn Steel.
Worse was to follow for Newnes as he was sent off three minutes into stoppage time for a straight red card offence.
