New Mills 4, Silsden 0
Silsden’s poor run of Vodkat League results continued as they slipped to a heavy defeat at second-placed Premier Division rivals New Mills.
There were promising signs from the Cobbydalers despite the four-goal reverse. The injury-ravaged squad are still limping from game to game with some very young and inexperienced players.
Silsden could have gone in front as their best chance came when the game was still goalless in the 17th minute.
A long through-ball was not dealt with by home centre back Peter Band and Chris Simpson nipped in but his shot was deflected wide by the boot of the goalkeeper’s trailing leg.
New Mills were threatening to break the deadlock but the Cobbydalers held out until the last minute of the first half.
When it came it was a simple strike, an Adam Mather cross to the far post being nodded in by Chris Baguley.
The same player made it 2-0 in the 51st minute but there was a lot more skill involved in that one. Baguley placed the ball after a free-kick had been awarded outside the area and dipped his strike over the wall and into the net.
With the home side looking for more goals, substitute Kane Berkley went on a run that took him past two defenders before drilling in a low shot from just outside the area.
They completed the scoring when another teasing cross from Mather picked out Band and he netted a downward header.
