Gavin Grant has become City’s third recruit in a week – on a pay-as-you-play basis.
The pacy striker is the latest addition of Peter Taylor’s Valley Parade revolution.
But the 25-year-old, who has played under Taylor before at Wycombe and Stevenage, will only receive expenses.
Grant has been out of the pro game for nearly a year through personal reasons. He has joined the Bantams on a non-contract deal just to get back into the daily routine.
Once up and running, Taylor believes he can be a major asset to the frontline either down the middle or as a right winger.
“Gavin’s a very good player, which is why I wanted to get him in now,” said the City chief.
“He scored seven goals in 12 matches for me at Stevenage. When I got the Wycombe job, I took him there straight away. He had an absolutely outstanding season.
“Gavin obviously hasn’t played regular football for a while but I’m convinced he will be fine in two or three weeks’ time.
“He’s nowhere near match fit to do a full 90 minutes yet but he can play a part.”
Grant has also played for Gillingham, alongside new City team-mate Michael Flynn, and Millwall.
Taylor said: “He’s quick and is a good goal-scorer, though how he didn’t score for Wycombe was amazing because he played so well.
“He’s delighted to be given the opportunity to be training with us every day. I’ve brought him in mainly for next season but I feel he can do something for us now.”
Grant and fellow new recruit Mark McCammon trained at Apperley Bridge for the first time yesterday.
Robbie Threlfall, Taylor’s first signing earlier this week, made an immediate impact with his spectacular goal at Rochdale and the new boss is looking to continue his rebuilding.
He said: “I’m pleased with what’s happened and I still think we can add one or two more. I’m very determined to go for a good finish to the season.”
