Brighouse Town go into tomorrow's derby fixture with AFC Emley as leaders of Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One following an eighth straight league victory.
Manager Mark Brier has taken the club to the top of the tree and given them hope of promotion in only their second season on the non-league ladder.
It has been a rapid rise but Brier is keen to keep everyone’s feet firmly on the ground.
“We go into this weekend with an awful lot to play for, and I hope it’s a great game played in front of a big crowd,” said Brier.
“But nothing is won in February - no promotion and relegation issues are settled and no trophies are handed out.
"We knocked Leeds Carnegie off the top with our home win over Hemsworth on Tuesday but Leeds have three games in hand, and Emley, who are third, also have a game in hand on us.
“It is a great feeling to top the division, even if it turns out to be short-lived. The top two go up, so if we’re not out in front at the end of the season I still won’t bother as long as we are second.
“I feel delighted for the club though, and everyone who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Brighouse Town topped the league and those people have been rewarded by that fact.
“Who knows what will happen in the run-in? I’m pleased by the attitude and professionalism of our players and we have a growing reputation.
"My assistant Daz Attwood said to me ‘This team doesn’t know when it’s beaten’, and he’s right, so don’t rule us out, even though we have played more games than most of the promotion chasers.
“Points on the board are what counts.”
