Leeds manager Simon Grayson believes Luciano Becchio is back in the form that can shoot his side to automatic promotion from League One.
Becchio, recalled to the team against Oldham on Tuesday night, responded with two second-half goals and an excellent all-round performance.
It helped earn a 2-0 win that consolidated United’s place in the top two and brought only their second league victory in nine games.
Now Grayson wants the Argentinian striker to maintain that standard for the rest of the season, starting with the West Yorkshire derby at sixth-placed neighbours Huddersfield on Saturday lunchtime.
“It has been a difficult season for Luciano because after starting the season he was out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury,” said Grayson.
“Trying to recapture his form has been difficult but he got a couple of goals a few weeks ago at Hartlepool which kicked him on.
“I left him out at the weekend because he had played a lot of games but against Oldham he showed the quality we know he possesses.
“Hopefully now he has the confidence and belief to go on and get another six to ten goals to help us win promotion.”
In-form Huddersfield have gone 11 games undefeated and Grayson accepts it is a big game because of where the two sides are in the table.
“They’ve had a good week in terms of results but we passed a big test of character on Tuesday night,” he said.
“It reminded me of how we were playing with so much confidence in the first half of the season and it has the makings of a good game at the weekend.”
