Brighouse Town 3 Hemsworth MW 2
A home victory took Brighouse to the top of Northern Counties East Divisionn One.
They reached the summit with a narrow win in a five-goal thriller against Hemsworth as their fixture escaped the return of the wintry weather.
It was far from easy as Town had to come from behind twice against their sixth-placed visitors.
Lee Burgess netted to make it 1-1 in the third minute of the second half and Daryll Leach scored Town’s second equaliser four minutes from time.
There was still enough remaining time for Burgess to net the late winner.
Town boss Mark Brier said: “We are top and while it may be a brief spell, with Leeds Carnegie having three games in hand, it is still a great feeling. I think it’s a reward for everyone at the football club.
“This was by no means our best performance but we scratched away and got the result, so we have to be pleased.
“We dominated the first 15 minutes but went in a goal down at half-time. We were a different team after the break, the lads really took our half-time talk to heart and have done the business yet again.”
