Buxton 3 Guiseley 1
The fact there was only one goal from open play in this UniBond Premier Division clash highlights the difficulties both sides had trying to play football on a 1970s throwback wintry surface.
A defeat for the Lions has damaged their tilt for promotion but not scuppered it.
The only goal of the first half was turned in by Lee Morris to give the home side a 13th-minute lead. A free-kick was drilled into the wall and the rebound fell kindly for Morris.
Guiseley’s equaliser was the first of two penalties in the game. A through ball from Liam Needham saw Jamie Walshaw racing into the area before a foul halted his progress. He recovered to net from the spot.
Just seven minutes later, on the hour mark, Lions defender Dave Merris was penalised and Mark Reed put Buxton back in front.
With the visitors trying to level for a share of the points, gaps were appearing at the back and Kieran Lugsden scored for the Derbyshire side in the third minute of time added on.
Guiseley spokesman Stuart Allen said: “It was touch and go that the game went ahead. It snowed over there on Thursday and it was the covering that prevented the frost getting a real hold.
“They had cleared the goal areas and the centre circle but just swept the lines everywhere else.”
