Yorkshire Amateur 0 Brighouse 2

Brighouse Town moved up to joint second in Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One with a 2-0 win at Yorkshire Amateur as they made the most of the inactivity of the two clubs above them.

Late goals in each half saw Brighouse to a deserved victory, though their chances were threatened by an enforced substitution.

Wide midfielder Wayne Crossley had to come off less than 15 minutes into the game suffering with flu symptoms. Andy Lockhart replaced him and it was he who got the final touch to put the visitors in the lead just before the break.

A better second-half display saw Town bossing possession but it was a game of few chances.

Ten minutes from time Lee Burgess put the result beyond doubt after taking a pass from the influential Lockhart.

Town boss Mark Brier said, “It was a good result from a scrappy game.

“I’m delighted with the effort from each individual in the squad because we needed them all having lost Wayne through illness and our skipper Andy Markham with a later injury.”

Division One leaders Leeds Carnegie were denied any action by a frozen pitch at the Smith Butler Stadium. They were due to face Eccleshill United but the fixture was one of six in the NCEL that fell foul of the weather.
