Michael Flynn has urged City’s king-makers to appoint a boss who will kick backsides.

Martin Allen and Russell Slade were in the Valley Parade crowd at the bore draw with Grimsby.

Two more days of interviews are planned as City sift through a short-list which also includes favourite Peter Taylor, Steve Cotterill, Jim Magilton, Peter Jackson, Lawrie Sanchez and Dean Windass.

According to midfielder Flynn, whoever is chosen must be willing to shake up the dressing room.

He said: “We need somebody with a big character who won’t take any messing.

“Some of the lads might feel a bit too comfortable and a few need a rocket up their backside. At times we’re a little bit predictable and whoever comes in has to have their own ideas.

“It can be done because we’ve got a good set of lads here but it needs a new voice and we need new rules to follow.”

Six candidates have been interviewed so far – and only one has definitely been ruled out.

Joint-chairman Mark Lawn said: “I’ve been very impressed by the professional approach. The people involved have done their homework on Bradford City.

“We’ve had powerpoint presentations and I was up until 3am reading the dossier compiled by one of them.

“But we know this is a good job. Even the one who was blase about it said we were the only club he would consider managing at this level.

“I would have thought we would be announcing an appointment on Wednesday so somebody can take charge for Accrington away.”

Wayne Jacobs has asked for an interview, although Saturday’s stalemate looks to have blown his chances.

He said: “It’s a fantastic job whoever gets it. It’s a big club in the sense of the stadium and attendances and we’re trying to be a big club again in the sense of what league we want to be playing in.

“Little bits need sorting out but it’s not a major overhaul.”
