The mercurial Paul Walker has finally been tempted away from Clayborn, and the hole he leaves in the squad is virtually irreparable.

The former Buxton forward enjoyed his second spell with Liversedge and turned down several offers from UniBond clubs to stay. One of those clubs from the higher rung of the non-league ladder was persistent, and they got their man.

Unfortunately for Sedge and manager Sean Regan, Walker’s departure has coincided with a poor run of form.

Regan said: “It has been an awful month or so taking everything into account. Only we know what has happened inside the club, other people just look at results and must be thinking we are in meltdown.

“It has been a frustrating few weeks, and obviously the break (forced by the weather) didn’t do us any good. We were struggling for training facilities and running around trying to organise friendlies.

“As a club we have lost two big players, had a nightmare with injuries and postponements and now we are trying to reverse a loss of form and confidence.

“The offer Paul got from Garforth Town was one he couldn’t turn down. It was so good that I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t have gone to join Garforth. He has been a massive player for us but we have to rebuild now.

“In fact the process is already under way. We have had a lot to contend with since the turn of the year but we are giving it our best and will be back.”
