Zesh Rehman can cope with any managerial upheaval after the QPR “merry-go-round”.
City’s club captain admitted it has not been easy to adapt to Valley Parade life after Stuart McCall.
But the big defender has a lot more experience of dealing with the aftermath of a manager’s departure than most.
In two years at Loftus Road, he saw seven different bosses pass through the revolving doors.
Rehman said: “It’s never nice to see someone go, especially when he is such a good man.
“The gaffer was very good for me at the start of the season making me club captain. That shows a lot of faith and confidence.
“But I’ve been in this situation many times before. At QPR it was like a merry-go-round – one season there were three or four different managers.
“It can be unsettling for players. There will be those who are out of contract wondering what will happen next and you think about new ones coming in and others going.
“But all you can do is stick together and focus on staying professional and doing your job properly. Impress the new man when he comes in and do your best for the fans who have been with us through thick and thin.”
Wayne Jacobs takes charge against Grimsby this afternoon, with interviews already running into next week.
Rehman maintains the squad have full confidence in McCall’s former No 2. He said: “Everybody respects Jakes and training has been as bright and bubbly as it can be.
“We obviously want to improve the situation for him and for when someone else comes in.”
Rehman was axed at Torquay a fortnight ago but replaced Steve Williams at half-time. He then started McCall’s final game against Bury at right back.
He added: “We’re all getting bored of saying the same things but anyone at that game could see for themselves we were the better side.
"We created the better opportunities but just got hit by a sucker punch.
“We just need to get some continuity again with the back four. I think in the last eight, nine or ten games there’s been a different back four every single time and that doesn’t help us.
“Obviously circumstances have dictated but I’m sure if we can keep a settled back four we can get back to the run we had earlier in the season.”
City’s board have been interviewing candidates for the last two days, including former Cheltenham and Leicester manager Martin Allen.
