Guiseley progressed to the semi-finals of the West Riding County Cup in midweek but turn their attention to the bread and butter of the league on Saturday when they host Stocksbridge Park Steels.

The Lions are just one place and three points outside the UniBond League Premier Division play-off zone but the picture could change this weekend.

The Nethermoor outfit have six games in hand on Hucknall Town, the club immediately above them, and also, coincidentally, on Saturday’s opposition.

Stocksbridge were one of the early-season pacesetters but have fallen away quite dramatically and they go into this clash in tenth position, trailing their sixth-placed hosts by five points.

Guiseley earned a good point from a tight draw at promotion rivals North Ferriby United last weekend and followed that up with their quarter-final derby win at Bradford Park Avenue.

That suggests they are in good form and are likely to be a big factor in the promotion equation.

Stuart Rudd, a former Avenue player, and Liam Needham – a summer target for Avenue – were scorers for the Lions in their 3-0 win at Horsfall Stadium on Monday.

They will be in Saturday’s squad but there remains a doubt over striker Adam Muller, who took a knock to his ankle in the cup tie.

Muller was substituted by Lions boss Steve Kittrick soon after picking up the injury to prevent further damage, but will be assessed on Saturday morning.
