Scunthorpe reserves 1, City reserves 2
Rory Boulding and Leon Osborne were on target as City’s reserves won 2-1 at Scunthorpe for their first totesport.com League East victory of the season.
Boulding opened the scoring in the 17th minute and, after Andrew Wright had equalised with a penalty at the start of the second half, Osborne netted the winner just before the hour mark.
Midfielder Steve O’Leary was named skipper for the day at Glanford Park as he continued on the road back towards full fitness with 67 minutes of action before his precautionary substitution.
The Bantams produced a composed performance which will have pleased the watching Wayne Jacobs, who has been placed in temporary charge of team affairs since the departure of Stuart McCall.
Joint-chairman Mark Lawn also looked on as O’Leary was joined in the line-up by first-team defenders Steve Williams and Jonathan Bateson.
Young apprentice Darren Stephenson set up City’s first goal with a clever step-over and driving run before crossing for Boulding to volley home from close range.
Luke Sharry conceded a penalty four minutes into the second half for bundling over Adam Boyes and keeper Jon McLaughlin was sent the wrong way by Iron defender Wright.
But City winger Osborne restored the lead and secured the win with a run into the area before beating Josh Lillis with an angled drive into the bottom corner.
