Peter Jackson would relish the chance to rejuvenate City’s fortunes, his former captain today claimed.

Jackson is thought to be a strong contender for the interim Valley Parade hot-seat until the end of the season.

Interviews began today, with around half a dozen leading candidates expected to be quizzed by joint-chairmen Mark Lawn and Julian Rhodes.

Former City skipper Jackson is eager to jump back into management after being sacked by Lincoln at the start of the season.

And Jon Worthington, captain during his second reign at Huddersfield, reckons he has got what it takes after the way he transformed Town.

Gomersal-born Worthington said: “Peter Jackson’s a terrific motivator and a good man-manager and knows what it takes to get you out of that league on a small budget.

“When he took over at Huddersfield, we were just out of administration. I think there were only ten players on the books – Andy Booth was the only recognised senior one and the rest like myself were young lads aged 18 or 19 who’d come through the academy.

“There was no real money to spend but he still managed to get us up on a shoestring with a load of kids.

“Then we stabilised in the next division, only missing out on the top six by a point, and the following year got in the League One play-offs. They were some great years under him.”

Chris Brandon and Matt Glennon were both signed by Jackson for Huddersfield. Worthington, now at Oldham, added: “They will know exactly what Peter Jackson can do.

“If he gets the job, I’m sure the Bradford squad will push on under him. I think it would be good for the club, both in the short term and longer term.

“From what I saw it was a strange decision for him to lose his job at Lincoln.

“Knowing the person he is, if the chance came along, I’m sure he would relish it and give it his all.”
