North Ferriby United 1, Guiseley 1

Guiseley earned a good point from a tough away game but cursed their misfortune in the first half as the shared points did nothing to help either of the UniBond League Premier Division promotion hopefuls.

The Lions were on a revenge mission after North Ferriby had taken all three points from the reverse fixture at Nethermoor. But a late penalty left Guiseley wondering if the east coast outfit were going to do the double over them, before Jamie Walshaw’s leveller.

The first half was almost one-way traffic, with Guiseley signalling their intentions early on when a Dave Merris shot cannoned back off the bar.

A later cross from Merris was scrambled away with forwards poised, while Lee Tuck and Walshaw forced saves from the home keeper.

Guiseley also started the second half well but Ferriby hit back to take the lead and deserved a share of the spoils.

The Lions had to rely on a late equaliser to bank a point ahead of tomorrow night’s West Riding County Cup quarter-final derby at Bradford Park Avenue.

A poor challenge from Stuart Rudd, ironically a former Avenue player, saw Ferriby awarded their 78th-minute penalty and leading scorer Gary Bradshaw stepped forward to lift his season’s tally to 16.

But Guiseley refused to be beaten and, after a Merris shot was fingertipped over by a full-stretch keeper and Patrick Lauber had seen a free-kick go close, Walshaw snatched the equaliser two minutes from time.

Lions spokesman Stuart Allen said: “There are no injuries from Saturday but Steve (manager Kittrick) may make changes tomorrow.

“It would be nice to keep progressing in the cup but we have a lot of league games to fit in before the season ends.”
