One of Brian Bell’s first duties as the Eagles’ new matchday secretary was to announce a sponsor for the naming rights of Plumpton Park.

He said: “We have received, for what is a club of this size, a very substantial sponsorship from Small & Butler Accountants.

“Jason Butler, one of the partners in the firm, has been very good to us and we are extremely grateful for his involvement.

“Everyone knows the last year or two have been a very troubled episode in Eccleshill United’s long history.

“However, with the hard work by all of the people who make the club tick and the generosity of others outside, we are trying to push forward again.”

Bell – a season-ticket holder at Park Avenue – came across his new job almost by accident.

He said: “I live around the corner from Eccleshill’s ground and I just turned up one day to see if I could help with anything.

“I would have swept the stand or painted the fencing but I ended up with the matchday secretary’s job.

“I don’t know what I’ve let myself in for! I do have what it takes to bring something to the job though and, joking apart, I’m very pleased the club have asked me and I can’t wait for the weather to sort itself out so we can get on with the rest of our season.”
