Stuart McCall believes the fans have a part to play in roaring City towards their first home win since October tomorrow.

The Bantams were bowled over by the away support they got in last week’s much-needed comeback victory at Torquay.

And McCall, whose position is still under threat, wants the Valley Parade stands to be rocking as they look to dismantle third-placed Bury.

McCall said: “I can never ask any more of our fans. The support has been outstanding for me and the club in general. “I’d ask that they come down again and back us from the first minute to the end.

“We showed last Saturday that it might go to the 92nd minute to get a winner. The game was no classic and we didn’t play well but we sent a lot of people home happy with the result.

“We’ve got to try to make that happen again. If supporters can give the vocal backing that they have done then if it’s tight right up to 80 or 90 minutes, we’ve shown we can still win games and points.”

City, who have not played at Valley Parade for a month, have failed to win the last six at home since beating Hereford.

McCall added: “Things have not gone for us. We’ve had one lad score from the halfway line, another from the touchline and if we’d kept 11 men on the park and not given away a penalty, we’d have won the last two games.

"We haven’t had those wins but the players are giving their all. Only Rochdale have come here and played us right off the park.”

Bury edged City 2-1 at Gigg Lane 17 days ago but there was little between the sides. McCall needs another win to ease the pressure on his own future and has been encouraged by the reaction of the players.

He said: “The bottom line is that the manager picks the side and brings players in. Ultimately he will pay the price, and rightly so.

“But there are times when players have got to take responsibility. It’s a united thing.

“You all take the praise and you’ve got to take the brickbats when they come along.

“The pleasing thing is that everybody is back in the squad now. There is a good spirit, not just for myself but for the club.”

James Hanson is back in training but City feel the game will come too soon for him.

Bury are likely to include midfielder Sam Hewson, who has joined on loan from Manchester United.

McCall expects another close encounter.

He said: “Bury are competitive and really work hard for each other. The pitch will be heavy and difficult and sometimes you’ve just got to battle through games.

“Maybe between now and the end of the season there won’t be classic football. You’ve got to be the bravest to get over the line.”
