Garforth Town 1, Farsley Celtic 0
Farsley Celtic were beaten by lower ranking opposition in the West Riding County Cup last night that saw three of the local sides exit knockout competitions.
The bad weather once again played its part as snow, sleet and freezing temperatures affected the playing surfaces.
Garforth Town’s pitch was no different, so the quality of the game was as poor as the surface.
Farsley did have a strong side but the only highlight of a goalless first half was a solitary chance. Midway through the half Celts forward Tom Woolard had an effort on goal.
The second period was equally devoid of real clear- cut openings, so it was no surprise that the game was won from the penalty spot. The son of a Leeds United legend won the game for Leeds-based Garforth.
Four minutes from time, Klevis Banushi was penalised for a challenge on Town’s Dominic Blair. The resultant spot-kick was converted by Liam Ormsby, son of the well known Brendan.
The best of the second-half chances for the away side fell to player-coach Simeon Bambrook. For so long a talisman for the Celts the former Gladiators contestant failed to break the deadlock.
Farsley’s Aiden Kirkby had an opening in the first minute of stoppage time but was off target.
That could have been a bonus as no-one would have enjoyed another half an hour of the fare that was on offer.
