New Eagles boss Paul Jenkinson was hoping for more action for his squad over the first few weeks of his tenure but fate has conspired against him.

Last weekend’s home game against fellow strugglers Glasshoughton Welfare was postponed after one of Eccleshill’s floodlight pylons was damaged.

The previous week they drew 4-4 at Glasshoughton but a fortnight ago they were forced to call off the visit of Tadcaster Albion due to a waterlogged pitch.

“We have played three games in five weeks since I got the job so it has been a far from an ideal start,” said Jenkinson.

“We are at Brighouse Town tomorrow and that should be on because their pitch is normally very good no matter how bad the weather is.

“If we had been at home, it would have been off again because of the collapsed floodlight.

“It was initially thought that it was severe wind that had caused it but the people we had in to quote for repairs have cast doubt on that.

“It seems a pin is missing that affected the stability of the pylon and no one knows how it came out or where it went.

“The thing (pylon) fell away from the stand, thankfully, so there is no damage to anything else, but we have had to get a crane in to lift it out of the way.

“We had an industrial electrician to remove the actual lights and store them for protection.

“The metal post hit a wall when it fell so it has a kink in it but we have been told that it is repairable.”

It is expected the repairs will be done in time for next Saturday’s game at home to Grimsby Borough.
