Farsley Celtic’s league form has been red hot and they will be aiming to take that into Saturday’s trip to face Blue Square North rivals Corby Town in the first round of the FA Trophy.
The cash-strapped Celts would love to bank the £5,000 prize money on offer to the winners of the tie.
The Celts are mid-table while sixth- placed Corby are promotion challengers. That is directly due to Farsley’s money troubles and their ten-point penalty for entering administration. Had the clubs started the season on equal footing, there would be just two points between them at this stage.
Farsley manager Neil Parsley said: “We have done well on our travels against the leading clubs in our division so this will be a nice challenge without the same pressure of having to gain as many points as possible.
“It is still a huge game for us because of the financial rewards in the FA Trophy and the chance of progressing. The winners of this could get one of the top Blue Square Premier clubs at home, which would be another pay day.
“We are under no illusions as we are aware we are punching above our weight at the moment. The lads are all together and the atmosphere in the dressing room is fantastic.
“Because of the situation the club is in we have a transfer ban on us preventing us from making any signings. We are running on a very compact squad, which is fine when all the lads are fit but is a concern that is never far from our minds.”
