Bradford Dudley Hill produced a rip-roaring first-half performance in their National Conference League Division One encounter at Thatto Heath Crusaders, only to see victory snatched from their grasp.
The St Helens outfit staged a fine comeback to leave Hill scoreless in the second half as they triumphed 22-16.
Centre Alex Dickenson and hooker Danny Conroy crossed and Tony Williams slotted over a conversion and a penalty to give Hill a dream start against second-placed Crusaders, and when wingman Jamie Brentley raced in shortly before half-time they looked set to push on further, leading 16-14.
The second half was equally close with Thatto posting a vital try shortly before the final hooter.
Two unconverted tries from winger Damian Smith and a penalty from prop Phil Chappell was not enough as West Bowling lost 16-10 at home to Normanton Knights.
