Three opportunist tries by Ollie Catherall helped Aireborough to a 35-23 victory at home to Doncaster Phoenix, which ensured their survival in Yorkshire Division Three.
Mathew Osborn added a late try to take the game beyond the visitors, the rest of the points coming from James Stocker’s reliable boot.
Aire were behind for much of the first half with Doncaster looking powerful in midfield but clever kicking over the defence by Stocker opened up space for Catherall to outstrip his opposition, gather and touch down.
With relegation rivals Wath and Roundhegians both losing and, with a game in hand, Aire can concentrate on tomorrow night’s (Wednesday) Aire Wharfe Cup tie at home to Baildon (6.30) and Saturday’s league and Yorkshire Silver Trophy double header at home to Old Otliensians.
