City signed off 2008 with their most emphatic win of the season.
But it was not the one-sided affair that the crushing scoreline would suggest.
Morecambe were very much in the game until Michael Boulding's tenth goal of the season just after the hour.
His cool one-on-one finish doubled the advantage that Paul McLaren had given them after 24 minutes - the 100th league goal of Stuart McCall's reign.
Morecambe were so close to levellingf on the stroke of half-time when Craig Stanley's corner was turned across goal and inches wide.
But Boulding's strike settled home nerves and City rampaged through the last half hour.
Barry Conlon thumped the bar before Nicky Law, the best player on the pitch, curled a beauty to make it 3-0 with 13 minutes left.
And Conlon wrapped it up at the end with a confident penalty after former Huddersfield defender Danny Adams had handled from Steve Jones.
CITY: Evans, Arnison, Lee, Clarke, O'Brien, McLaren, Furman, Law, Daley, Boulding, Conlon. Subs: Bower, Daley, R Boulding, Moncur, Nix.
