Stuart McCall is demanding a winning send-off to 2008 tomorrow after a second straight goalless draw.
City fired another blank in an entertaining clash at Lincoln and have now gone four games without a win.
McCall wants to put that run to bed by beating Morecambe at Valley Parade as the League Two promotion chase hits the halfway point.
“Privately I set us a four-point target from the two Christmas games so it would be nice to end the year on a high,” he said.
“Morecambe had a good 4-1 win over Macclesfield but we need the victory, then we can look to kick on in the new year.”
Lincoln goalkeeper Rob Burch, a summer target for McCall, saved superbly from Michael Boulding and Omar Daley.
But Rhys Evans pulled off a spectacular block from midfielder Lee Frecklington, who also missed an open net from six yards.
McCall said: “The game could have finished 2-2 and nobody would have had any complaints. Both teams had their chances and it’s hard to believe that 90 minutes of football didn’t produce a goal.
“The way we play, we get at teams and do commit men forward, so it’s going to be open, but we’ve got to realise during a game who is being a threat and get them the ball.
“We had some great breaks but the final ball or final touch was just missing. We need to pick out the weaknesses on the pitch – their left back was booked in the first half and then caught Steve Jones down the back but we’re too nice a team to make too much of it.”
Skipper Graeme Lee needed five stitches in a head wound. McCall revealed that he had also been struggling before the game with a virus which has swept through the dressing room.
McCall said: “It’s the same with a lot of clubs and families at this time of year. We’ve got them in for training today and we’ll see how people are.”
Defender Matt Clarke, one of five players under the weather, added: “We’ve got to capitalise on that draw by winning tomorrow. Four points from the two games would be a good return but we can’t afford any less.
“It could have gone either way but as the game wore on, it just had 0-0 written all over it. We just kept on concentrating to make sure it wasn’t another Brentford with a late goal.
“There were a few decisions we didn’t feel went our way, and Omar (Daley) was hard done by, but we’ll take the point.
“It’s pleasing we’ve tightened up defensively but we seem to go one way or the other. We’re keeping clean sheets but not scoring or we score goals but let them in.”
