Barry Conlon wants to end an 11-year wait by winning his first promotion with City.
Conlon aims to celebrate his new short-term contract with three points at Lincoln this afternoon. And he has his sights set on a bigger prize at the end of the season.
City are the tenth club on the journeyman striker’s CV, which has featured 416 games and 105 goals. But he has never tasted any form of success.
That is something Conlon is desperate to put right – and reckons this is the perfect time to do it.
He said: “I’ve been at some good clubs but never had a promotion, so hopefully this could be the one.
“I feel as if this is the right place to be, which is why I was never going to look anywhere else even if they offered a longer deal.
“I want to achieve something and I just feel that it can happen with Bradford.”
Conlon is not alone among City players still chasing their first honours.
Stuart McCall said: “Graeme Lee has won three promotions and a couple of the other lads have done it. But there’s not that many in the dressing room who have been promoted.
“You always remember the big games and there’s nothing better than being able to look back and remember the years when you had success.”
Conlon has won his last three visits to Sincil Bank – all with different clubs – and hopes that lightning will strike twice with a repeat of last year’s Boxing Day outcome against the Imps.
The Irishman scrambled home the late winner that day with his first goal at Valley Parade.
He said: “It was a great atmosphere and it felt wonderful to get that goal. It was a weight off my shoulders at the time and hopefully I can go out and do it again.
“All the lads are confident and happy with the way we’re playing. The Chester game was frustrating but it was just one of those days when the ball didn’t bounce for us.
“It was like a pinball machine in the goal-mouth at times and we were sat there afterwards wondering how we didn’t score. But hopefully that will change this afternoon.
“Lincoln will come at us a lot more which we don’t mind. We’re good defensively and it gives us a chance to get at teams with the pace we have.
“It’s great as a striker when you’re getting the service from both wings. If we can keep getting balls in the box, there is going to be goals for whoever is playing up front.”
