Salts, with a 2-0 home victory over Eastmoor, took full advantage to move into second place in Division One of the West Riding County Amateur League, four points behind leaders Albion Sports and level on points with Steeton.
Rivals Tyersal’s home game with Keighley Shamrocks was postponed and Wakefield City were surprisingly beaten 3-0 at home by Littletown.
Kristen Hargreaves gave Salts a first-half advantage before Chas Cookson added a second to secure the points and extend Salts’ unbeaten run of league games to seven.
Littletown, with two goals from Richard Davey and one from Jobie Terry, stopped hosts Wakefield City from moving into second place by themselves with only their third victory in eight games.
South Bradford turned in an inept performance at home to Heckmondwike Town and lost 5-3, Sam Morton, Terence Oddy and Tergwa Kawende scoring for South Bradford while Jamie Pollard and Adam Clayton both scored twice to add to Richard Hiscocks’ goal for Town.
Hunsworth edged out Ventus-Yeadon Celtic 4-3 at Birkenshaw, all the goals coming in the first period.
Steve Oakes scored two goals for Hunsworth to add to one each from Dale Wright and Joe Farrar, Terry Hargreaves scoring twice for Celtic, Alex Cusack completing the tally.
Rawdon Old Boys, who beat Storthes Hall Reserves 2-0, moved into top spot in Division Two, one point ahead of Bronte Wanderers, whose home game against West Horton was postponed. Ryan Metcalfe and Stuart Clarke netted for the Old Boys.
Tyersal Reserves moved into third place after Jamie McEwen scored the only goal at bottom-placed Dudley Hill Athletic.
Campion Reserves had victory snatched away from them at home to Dynamoes, who equalised in the last minute.
Chris Gibbon, James Nestor and Andrew Hawker had earlier scored for Campion, with Liam Gallagher striking for Dynamoes before Gibbons’ late goal made it 2-2.
Bay Athletic returned to the top of the Premier Division ahead of Ovenden West Riding with a 2-1 win at Storthes Hall.
Meltham warmed up for their County Cup visit to Albion Sports on Saturday with a 5-0 success at home to Halifax Irish.
Steeton bowed out of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup 2-1 defeat at Manchester League side Springhead, while goalkeeper Chris Moroney was Ovenden WR’s hero against Knaresborough Town, saving two penalties in a 3-2 extra-time victory.
