Armthorpe Welfare 0, Thackley 2

Dean Walters came within inches of claiming one of the fastest hat-tricks of all time as Thackley enjoyed a match-winning two-minute spell in the Kool Sport NCE League Premier Division.

Both sides had two good opportunities to break the deadlock early on, the home side seeing a pair of angled drives flash through the Thackley area and whistle narrowly wide of the far post.

Thackley saw Kyle Shah and Joel Birks go close before the latter player turned provider. Birks floated in a 29th-minute free-kick and Walters nipped around the back of the home defence to slot home.

Less than a minute later Craig McGuiness launched a raid down the wing and his cross invited Walters to turn the ball in again, before a carbon copy move in the next minute saw Walters’ rising shot from McGuiness’ cross cannon back out off the underside of the bar.

Thackley goalkeeper Scott Dinnigan tipped a well-struck free-kick over the bar just before half-time.

There were more chances for the home side as they pushed to get something from the game in the second half but the visitors held firm.
