Stuart McCall will not rule out a move for any position in next month’s football transfer window.
The City boss admits he has an open-minded approach to bolstering his squad for the crucial second half of the season.
With Willy Topp’s saved wages adding to the kitty, a striker is very much on the McCall shopping list. He is currently waiting for an answer from Barry Conlon, who has been offered another short-term deal.
But McCall will look at options all over the pitch, if he feels they are good enough to make an impact.
He said: “We’re always out looking and agents are coming on the phone now and asking what positions we are looking at. But we’re quite open about things.
“We’ll see what is available and whether they are better than the players we’ve got in already.
“We’re hopefully going to have Joe Colbeck coming back soon and maybe Chris Brandon so we’re all right in that area. But if someone comes up who is a good player and willing to come, then we might have a go for them.
“I’m eyeing a striker at the moment but I’ll look at every position and see how things transpire.”
McCall is expecting a quick answer from Conlon, whose current six-month contract runs out on New Year’s Eve.
City joint-chairman Julian Rhodes believes the Irishman has justified a new deal by adding goals to his physical approach.
Rhodes said: “When we were going through the players to release last summer, Barry was the one for me that we needed to keep.
“He gives us something a little bit different. It’s not easy to get big centre forwards who will hold the ball up like he does, and he works hard.
“Barry just needed to produce more goals this season and he has done that. His work-rate has never been questioned and now he is scoring as well.”
Youngster Leon Osborne will also consider another short-term deal for the rest of the season.
And McCall will soon have decisions to make over loan signings TJ Moncur, Nicky Law and Steve Jones.
