Saturday was a complete washout for all eight of our non-league sides because of waterlogged pitches.
The thaw of last week’s deep frost combined with the constant overnight rain of Friday made play impossible, even for the sides who were due to play away.
It prevented new Bradford Park Avenue manager John Deacey overseeing his first game in charge at home.
Avenue were scheduled to play Ashton United in a UniBond Premier clash at Horsfall Stadium. He will now make his bow this Saturday when Avenue travel to Witton Albion.
Avenue’s divisional rivals Guiseley should also have been at home but their game against Frickley Athletic was off.
The inactivity did not cost the Lions second place in the Premier table but one of their promotion rivals made up some ground.
Eastwood Town, who are fourth, beat Buxton 2-1 to move within one point of Guiseley.
The clubs should have clashed tomorrow night, which would have given Guiseley a chance to take points off the side still revelling in the spotlight thanks to their FA Cup giant-killing exploits.
However, because of the recent weather problems that will not now take place.
Guiseley will have to make a third attempt to host Ossett Town in the second round of the West Riding County Cup.
The highest profile fixture to fall by the wayside was Farsley Celtic’s FA Trophy first-round tie at Blue Square Premier leaders Burton Albion.
Nigel Clough’s team are knocking on the door of the Football League and have a superb ground but even the surface at the Pirelli Stadium could not cope with the sheer volume of water.
In the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League, all four local clubs had their fixtures shelved. Only three games in the two-tier system got the green light – two Premier Division games and one in Division One.
In the top division, Thackley and Liversedge were due home games while Eccleshill United should have visited Brodsworth Welfare.
In the lower tier, Brighouse should have hosted Worsborough Bridge Athletic.
Cougar Park was also holding surface water, which prevented Silsden taking on Alsager Town in the Vodkat Premier.
