BRADFORD Dragons remain winless after falling to their 7th consecutive league defeat on Saturday in what proved to be a nail-biting contest.
The West Yorkshire side hosted the Thames Valley Cavaliers, but narrowly lost the fixture 73-76 at the Inspire Centre, Calderdale College.
Despite a fast start, the Dragons were unable to maintain their momentum and ultimately fell short as the search for a first league win continues.
Defeat means Bradford still sit at the foot of the National Basketball League Division One table, and the record of seven defeats in as many games remains a sorry sight.
Despite that, the Dragons started the game very strongly and put on a fine performance in the first quarter, leading 12-9 after the opening five minutes.
However, the Cavaliers responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Dragons 24-10 to take a 33-22 lead at half-time.
Back came the Dragons, however, who fought back valiantly in the third quarter of the contest to outscore the Cavaliers 18-17 and narrow the gap to 41-40.
However, more frustration beckoned for the home team as the Cavaliers maintained their lead in the fourth quarter, eventually securing a 76-73 victory to pile more pressure on the Dragons.
Although the visitors did edge the contest on the scoreboard, Bradford’s performances are continuing to grow in stature, and victory doesn’t feel that far away.
Experienced star Rihards Sulcs led the Dragons on the day with 20 points, while Micah Savery-Richards added 24 points.
As for Bradford’s opponents, Juan Manning led the Cavaliers with 18 points, while Justin Robinson added 17 points as they came away with the victory.
A win has resulted in the Cavaliers taking 7th place in the National Basketball League Division One table, while the Dragons sit in 13th.
It’s another challenging and long trip for the West Yorkshire side this Saturday as they travel to face off with the Essex Rebels, at the Essex Sports Arena, with tip-off getting underway at 6:30 pm.
