IBRAHIM Nadim is rightly celebrating winning his first-ever professional boxing title, but the Keighley super-featherweight is not about to forget the people who made him.

He impressively beat Adam Rasool on points in Manchester last Saturday to become Central Area champion, paving the way for a potential tilt at the English title soon.

Less than 48 hours after his triumphs at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre, he rocked up a few miles away at Bury Amateur Boxing Club.

That was where Steeton-born Nadim trained before turning professional under Mick Jelley and Colin Carr.

Those two trainers were there to welcome their former pupil, with Nadim joined by Abdul Khan, who won the Commonwealth Silver super featherweight championship last Friday.

Jelley is a particularly prominent name in the world of boxing, having trained former world champions Amir Khan (Abdul’s cousin) and Scott Quigg in the past.

Both Nadim and Khan brought along the belts they had won over the last few days, hoping their successes might also inspire the young boxers who were in attendance at Bury ABC on Monday.
