STALWART Rihards Sulcs believes that the Bradford Dragons need to form unity if they are to turn their baron spell around.

The basketball side from West Yorkshire currently sit 13th, bottom place, of the National Basketball League (Division One) after five matches.

They have lost their opening five league fixtures and remain winless heading into this weekend’s showdown at Worthing Thunder.

Speaking on his side’s recent form, Sulcs told the T&A: "I feel like we are better than the table suggests. However, we’re in a tough position currently and we need to learn how to work better as a unit, particularly in the defensive phase.

“Our discipline hasn’t been great, and we need to work out different ways in which we can help each other out at the back. Offensively, I think we’re fine but there is work that needs doing defensively.”

Sulcs added: “We are a relatively new team in terms of faces too, which means we’ve got different characters and different style of players this season.

“I’m not saying there is a clash of characters, as everyone tries their best to help each other out, but we all need to come together to defend as a unit and defend for each other.

“It will take a bit of time for us to reach top gear, but the signs are there to show that we’re improving.

“Although losing isn’t nice, I do believe we’ve learned quite a bit in the last few weeks having gone 0-5 (zero wins – five defeats).

“I’m confident, particularly when we add a couple more faces to the group, that we’ll start to pick up the necessary points.”

The Dragons have a great opportunity to put their first points on the board this season when they travel to face off with Worthing today (7:30 pm).

Coming off the back of a narrow 92-84 defeat at home to City of Birmingham Rockets last time out, Bradford will be sensing an opportunity to bounce back from disappointment as they are playing the side directly above them in 12th this evening.

A victory tonight for the visitors would draw them level with Worthing on two points, and Sulcs admitted that it would be massive if they were to do so.

He said: “It would be huge for us to get the win, and I think that we really need it.

“It’s a long way down to Worthing (West Sussex) and if we were to lose, the drive back wouldn’t be nice particularly when we’re playing in the cup on Sunday too.

“The journey back would be much better if we could get the first win and two points on the board.

“I think it would give the group a massive confidence boost and, of course, we’re playing the side who are directly above us so it would draw us level on points with Worthing.

“Hopefully we can see this one through.”
