YORKSHIRE bowling all-rounder Jordan Thompson was in international action for England last weekend, as he played for them in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament.

The short-form competition is in a six-overs-per-side format, while each team has six players.

England were drawn against Australia and Nepal in Group B and Thompson’s first game, against the latter, was a full-blown nightmare.

He was dismissed for a golden duck as England posted 97, Ravi Bopara and Samit Patel doing the bulk of the run-scoring

Needing to chase that down in six overs, Nepal did so with 10 balls to spare and without losing a wicket, Thompson hammered for 30 in the opening over of the chase.

The Yorkshireman took the only wicket later that day against Australia, but went for 31 this time as the team conceded 147.

England’s chase got nowhere near, but Thompson did make an eye-catching 25 from eight balls in the 34-run defeat.

Ethan Brookes’ late cameo of 35 was their only other innings of note.

Those results knocked England out of the main tournament, putting them in the lesser Bowl competition.

They immediately got their first win there, beating India by 15 runs, Thompson hitting a six from his only ball and bowling far better to take 1-32 from his two overs.

The standout player in their victory was Bopara, who scored 53 not out then took 2-11.

But England were then hammered by Oman, Thompson carted for 35 in his only over before scoring just nine in a heavy 67-run defeat.

They bounced back well in their final game of the tournament against New Zealand.

Thompson thrashed a quickfire 25 as England posted 116-4, Bopara the star once again with 62 from just 15 balls

New Zealand came close to chasing that total down, but with Thompson taking a crucial catch off the bowling of Brookes, the Kiwis fell short by eight runs, ending up on 108-2.

Oman were the best side in the Bowl tournament, winning all three of their games, with India picking up the wooden spoon after losing all of theirs.

As for the main tournament, Sri Lanka won that after beating Pakistan with an over to spare in a low-scoring final.

Pakistan lost all six of their batsmen to be dismissed for 72 with three balls left unused, and Sri Lanka came out on top by three wickets with a winning chase of 76-3.
