Graham Reid, who was chairman of the Bradford League for 15 years between 1997 and 2012, died on Monday aged 89 after suffering a fall.

Reid’s association with the league began in 1974 when Yorkshire Bank joined the competition.

He was their second team captain and soon became their club’s league representative.

He was elected to the league’s Executive Committee in 1979 and became vice-president in 1995 before taking on the role of chairman in 1997.

His dedicated service to the league was acknowledged when he won the coveted Sir Leonard Hutton Trophy in 2000, and he was made a life member when he relinquished the post of chairman.

League president David Young said: “This incredibly sad news. Graham loved cricket and cared deeply about the fortunes of the league.

“He led the league for 15 years as chairman and since standing down has been a regular visitor to cup finals and league dinners.

“The thoughts of the league are with Graham’s daughters at this sad time. The league has lost another great servant.”

Reid, who was manager of the Yorkshire Bank branch in Chapel Allerton, had wide sporting interests.

A proud Scotsman, he represented his country as a sprinter at the British Empire Games, and his love of cricket was matched by his love of rugby union, and he enjoyed regular trips to Murrayfield to watch Scotland play

He was a long-serving Aire-Wharfe representative on the Yorkshire Rugby Union as well being a dedicated official of Baildon RUFC. He served a press officer and president and was a life member.

His funeral will be held at Shay Grange Crematorium, Heaton on Thursday, November 21 at 3pm. This will be followed by a celebration of Graham’s life at Bradford & Bingley Sports Club.
